Nokia optical transceivers and pluggable optics

Nokia optics divide between the service router platforms — 7750 SR, 7950 XSR, 7250 IXR — and the transport and access families that arrived through Alcatel-Lucent. The practical difficulty is not specification but coding: a module with the right reach and wavelength will still be rejected by a platform that does not recognise its vendor code, which is why an enquiry that says only 10G 10km cannot be quoted accurately.

How to read these part numbers

Nokia optics carry either a readable designation such as QSFP-100G-SR4-MM850 or an eight-character Alcatel-heritage code such as IPUIBXYDAA. Where the readable form is present it encodes form factor, data rate, reach class and wavelength in that order — SR4 is short-reach four-lane, MM850 is multimode at 850 nanometres. The alphabetic codes carry no readable meaning and must be matched exactly. Where a table row names a platform such as 7750 SR, that indicates the optic is coded for that family rather than universal.

Ordering notes

Four things identify an optic without ambiguity: form factor, data rate, reach and wavelength. Give all four, plus the platform and the software release, since Nokia enforces coding at the port. State whether industrial temperature rating is required — it is the field most often omitted and the one that fails an install in a Gulf summer or an unheated African shelter. If you are matching existing optics, the code printed on the module barrel is definitive.

Lifecycle and availability

Current-generation SFP28, QSFP28 and QSFP-DD optics remain in production. XFP, CFP and older SFP+ variants are end-of-sale and increasingly surplus-only. Coded compatible modules are available for most platforms where the original is unobtainable.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's authorised channel or an authorised distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Condition is confirmed in writing on every quotation before you commit to an order.

Where equipment is supplied new through an authorised channel, the manufacturer's warranty applies and is passed to you.

A correctly coded compatible module normally will. An uncoded one usually will not. We will tell you whether we are quoting original or coded compatible, and we will not substitute one for the other silently.
