An SFP module is the small pluggable transceiver that connects a switch, router or server port to fibre or copper cabling, and it is the most commodity-like item in this catalogue — and the one where vendor coding causes the most trouble. A physically identical module will be rejected by one platform and accepted by another depending on the code written into it, which is why "10G 10km SFP+" is never a sufficient specification. This category indexes SFP, SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+ and QSFP28 optics by reach, wavelength and data rate across the manufacturers listed below, plus compatible modules coded to order. Reach, wavelength, connector, fibre type and temperature rating are the five fields that identify an optic unambiguously.

SFP module types at a glance
| Form factor | Data rate | Common reach codes |
|---|---|---|
| SFP | 1 Gbit/s (also 100 Mbit/s FE) | SX 550 m MMF (generic code SFP-1G-SX) · LX/LH 10 km · EX 40 km · ZX 70–80 km · T copper RJ45 · BX BiDi |
| SFP+ | 10 Gbit/s | SR 300–400 m MMF · LRM 220 m MMF · LR 10 km · ER 40 km · ZR 80 km · T copper RJ45 |
| SFP28 | 25 Gbit/s (most also run at 10 Gbit/s) | SR 100 m OM4 · LR 10 km |
| QSFP+ | 40 Gbit/s | SR4 100–150 m MPO · LR4 10 km · BiDi 100–150 m duplex LC |
| QSFP28 | 100 Gbit/s | SR4 70–100 m MPO · CWDM4 2 km · LR4 10 km · ER4 25–40 km |
SR, SX and LRM run over multimode fibre (850 nm or 1310 nm); LX, LR, EX, ER and ZR over single-mode fibre (1310 nm or 1550 nm). An SFP+ port normally accepts a 1G SFP; an SFP port does not accept an SFP+.
Copper SFP (SFP to RJ45) and BiDi SFP
A copper SFP turns an SFP or SFP+ slot into an RJ45 port for twisted-pair cabling. At 1 Gbit/s (1000BASE-T) the reach is 100 m over Cat5e — Cisco GLC-TE, HPE Aruba J8177D, Juniper EX-SFP-1GE-T, MikroTik S-RJ01 and Ubiquiti UF-RJ45-1G are the common codes. At 10 Gbit/s (10GBASE-T, Cisco SFP-10G-T-X, MikroTik S+RJ10, Ubiquiti UF-RJ45-10G) the reach is much shorter, typically up to 30 m over Cat6a, and the module draws noticeably more power, so check the switch's per-port power budget.
A BiDi (bidirectional) SFP carries transmit and receive over a single fibre using two wavelengths, so it is always ordered as a matched pair — one module of each type, for example Cisco GLC-BX-U with GLC-BX-D, or MikroTik S-35LC20D with S-53LC20D. BiDi halves the fibre count on a link and is common in access networks where dark fibre is scarce.
Cross-reference by optical class
The same optical class carries a different part number on each manufacturer's platform. Order the code that matches the switch; the table identifies the equivalent module across a mixed network.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is an SFP module?
A small form-factor pluggable (SFP) module is a hot-swappable transceiver that plugs into a switch, router or server port and connects it to fibre or copper cabling. The module determines the data rate, wavelength, reach and connector of the link.
What is the difference between SFP, SFP+ and SFP28?
They share the same physical size but run at different speeds: SFP at 1 Gbit/s, SFP+ at 10 Gbit/s and SFP28 at 25 Gbit/s. Most SFP+ ports accept a 1G SFP, and most SFP28 ports accept a 10G SFP+, but not the other way round.
Can I use one manufacturer's SFP in another manufacturer's switch?
Physically yes, but many platforms — Cisco, HPE Aruba and Juniper in particular — check the vendor code in the module and may reject or flag a module coded for another vendor. Order modules coded for the platform they will be installed in. We quote original and coded-compatible modules as separate, clearly marked lines.
Do you supply SFP modules in volume?
Yes. Quantities for network refreshes, tenders and data-centre builds are quoted per line with condition, origin and lead time; send the part numbers and quantities, or a bill of materials.
Equipment condition
New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's own channel or a qualified distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.
New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.
Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.
Condition is confirmed in writing on every quotation before you commit to an order.
Warranty
Warranty terms vary by item, by condition and by the supplier the equipment is sourced from. They are stated in writing on the quotation, per line item, before you commit to an order.
Where equipment is supplied new through the manufacturer's own channel, the manufacturer's warranty applies and is passed to you.
Send us the part numbers you need and we will confirm warranty terms alongside availability, condition, lead time and price.
