Huawei AAU and massive MIMO active antenna units

Huawei's AAU5000-series units are the mid-band massive MIMO hardware behind most 5G deployments in the markets we serve, and they arrive as enquiries in two distinct shapes: a failed unit that must be matched exactly to keep a live sector on air, and a planned build where the operator is comparing configurations before committing. The two need different answers, and it is worth saying which one you are at the outset.

How to read these part numbers

The AAU number identifies the family and configuration — AAU5613, AAU5646, AAU5831, AAU5339W — and the following designation gives the band and centre frequency, so 3500A and 3600A denote different mid-band variants that are not interchangeable. The eight-digit code beginning 02312 or 02313 is the ordering reference and the only field that resolves a specific configuration, since one AAU model number covers several band and power variants. Accessory codes such as HJ018-2ST identify connectors and mounting hardware sold alongside.

Ordering notes

Give the eight-digit part number if you have it — with AAUs more than any other category, the model number alone is insufficient. Otherwise specify band and centre frequency, TX/RX order, total output power, and the fronthaul interface, since eCPRI and CPRI variants pair with different baseband boards. Confirm the BBU model and software release. And check tower loading before ordering: these units are heavy, and the structural assessment is the step most often skipped and most expensive to discover late.

Lifecycle and availability

Current AAU5000-series variants remain in production. Availability is subject to export-control screening on items containing US-origin technology, which we confirm per transaction before committing to a delivery date rather than after.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's authorised channel or an authorised distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Condition is confirmed in writing on every quotation before you commit to an order.

Where equipment is supplied new through an authorised channel, the manufacturer's warranty applies and is passed to you.
