Huawei MA5600T and MA5800 OLT and GPON boards

The MA-series number identifies the chassis and its size — MA5600T and MA5608T are the earlier generation, MA5800 with its X2, X7, X15 and X17 variants the later one, and MA5616 an MDU rather than a full OLT. Boards use the H8xx and H5xx families, where the first digits indicate the board generation and the letters the function: GPBD and GPFD are GPON service boards, SCU and SCUH are super control units, PRTE and PILA are power boards. Suffixes such as C+ on a GPON board indicate the optical class, which sets the split ratio and reach the board supports.

Give the chassis model and generation first, because H805 boards and H901 boards belong to different platforms and will not cross over. Then state the service board type, the port count, and critically the optical class — a GPON board's class determines the split ratio and distance it will support, and getting it wrong means the board works but the plant does not. MA5600T and MA5608T are end-of-sale, with boards available through the surplus and refurbished market. MA5800 remains current in most variants. Note that a small number of rows on this page are power and auxiliary items associated with these shelves rather than service boards. Complete MA5608T and MA5683T builds — chassis, control board, power board and GPON boards with their SFPs — are quoted new and refurbished side by side, and for refurbished chassis the licence and firmware state as received is stated on the quotation.

Buyers at this level ask board by board, so the quotation is built the same way. A working MA5608T is: the H801MABR chassis; one or two control boards — H801MCUD with GE uplinks, or H801MCUD1 where a 10GE uplink is required; a power board — H801MPWC for a −48 V DC site or H801MPWD for AC; one or two service boards — H806GPBD with 8 GPON ports or H805GPFD with 16, the EPON equivalent being H805EPFD; one GPON SFP per PON port in the class the plant needs, B+, C+ or C++; and the uplink optics for the MCUD.

The MA5683T follows the same pattern with six service slots, SCUN or SCUB control and PRTE power; the MA5680T with sixteen. Send the subscriber target and we will return the board count and SFP count rather than leaving the arithmetic to the buyer. Quotations are tiered by quantity and quoted new and refurbished side by side; no list price is published.

Subscriber count. One 8-port GPBD at a 1:64 split serves up to 512 subscribers; one 16-port GPFD up to 1,024. An MA5608T with two service slots therefore tops out around 2,000 subscribers; an MA5683T with six slots around 6,000; an MA5680T or MA5600T with sixteen slots is a central-office machine. Choose the smallest chassis that leaves one slot free for growth.

Uplink. GE uplinks on MCUD, SCUB or GICF suit a small MA5608T; 10GE uplinks — MCUD1 on MA5608T, X2CS on MA5600T and MA5680T — are specified where the aggregate PON load or the upstream router demands it.

AC or DC site. MA5608T takes MPWD for AC and MPWC for −48 V DC; the larger chassis are DC-fed through PRTE and expect a rectifier on site. Tell us the site power and the board is matched on the quotation.
